Booster SEO overwrote my meta descriptions on Shopify โ how to restore them
Booster SEO's AutoPilot auto-optimizes your meta titles and descriptions, and when it's on it can replace your hand-written descriptions with its own templated version on a schedule โ often across hundreds of products in one run. Those fields are real Shopify SEO metafields with no version history, so there's no native undo and no record of what your descriptions said before, which is why a single run can quietly flatten weeks of copy.
If you didn't already have a backup, those old values are gone โ Shopify keeps no history.
The steps below recover what you can. To make the next time a 1-click undo instead of hours of CSV work: a daily snapshot of every SEO field. Free to monitor, no card โ and SEO Vault only reads your store unless you click restore.
Turn off AutoPilot first. In Booster SEO, open the AutoPilot / auto-optimize settings and disable the meta description rule โ otherwise it re-applies its template on the next scheduled run and overwrites your fix. Check whether it touched collection descriptions too, not just products.
Recover your originals from any copy you still have: re-import the meta description column from a pre-change CSV export (Matrixify maps it to the global.description_tag metafield), or copy the old descriptions Google is still showing in live search results โ they lag a recrawl by a few days, so grab them before they update.
Where nothing survives, rewrite the pages that matter first: check Google Search Console > Pages for the products actually earning clicks, write unique descriptions for those, then request re-indexing of just those URLs.
Going forward, keep a daily snapshot of every meta description (products and collections) so a single AutoPilot run is flagged the day it happens โ with the app that changed them named โ and yesterday's descriptions restore in one click instead of a manual rebuild.

SEO Vault keeps a daily snapshot of every SEO field on your store โ meta titles, descriptions, alt-text, tags, handles (products AND collections) โ and emails you the moment something changes in bulk, with the likely app responsible. One click restores yesterday's state, just the SEO fields. Free to monitor and get alerted; $14/mo for 1-click restore.
